With Carson Beck’s return, Georgia is “Headed in the Right Direction”

Even though Georgia was not able to complete an unprecedented three-peat in 2023, the Bulldogs still have high expectations going into the 2024 offseason as many sportsbooks have them as the favorite to win the 2024 College Football Playoff national championship. Even though Georgia always has one of the strongest rosters in the nation, a big part of the increased excitement around Georgia’s prospects of winning college football again comes from the return of starting quarterback Carson Beck.
After Georgia’s close loss to Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, Beck—who had just completed his fourth year of college—was among many Georgia players who considered jumping to the NFL. Following a short time of indecision, the native of Jacksonville, Florida, declared on December 18 that he would be returning to Georgia for the 2024 season. This announcement sent Georgia’s chances of winning its third national title in three seasons skyrocketing.
The Bulldogs will have one of the best quarterbacks in the country back at quarterback in 2024 with Beck back on the team. During his first 14 games as Georgia’s starting quarterback in 2023, Beck recorded the second-best single-season passing yardage total in program history (3,941), just 186 yards short of the record set by Stetson Bennett in 15 games in 2022. He also set a school record for completion percentage in a single season. In an interview with Steak Shapiro and Rusty Mansell on 92.9 The Game on Thursday, Georgia Head Coach Kirby Smart stated that having that kind of output back at what is fast becoming the most important position in the sport has helped Georgia get off to a strong start heading into the 2024 summer.
As for the program, Smart stated, “I think it’s a huge momentum builder, gives a lot of confidence that things are heading in the right direction.” “He has enough faith in our abilities as staff members and coaches to lead and guide him in the right direction.”

“If you’re No. 1 in the country on third down, you’ve got somebody that knows what he’s doing at quarterback,” Smart explained. “It doesn’t just happen. If you look across the nation and across the history of guys that have been good on third downs, they usually are high quarterback functioning people. That’s what he is.”
With that level of production and continuity returning on offense in 2024 combined with the talented pieces Georgia has added to its roster, it is quite easy to understand why Smart and his team enter the 2024 offseason with confidence in their ability to climb to the top of the college football mountain once again next season.
