In the Black and Yellows’ arduous victory over Werder Bremen, Jadon Sancho eventually opened his (second) account for Borussia Dortmund.

In recent weeks, the Manchester United loanee had been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Dortmund supporters’ excitement over his arrival was soon dashed when Sancho, who hasn’t played in a league since the summer, displayed obvious signs of rustiness.

Sancho had won a penalty but the striker wouldn’t allow him take it. After being denied his first goal for Dortmund by teammate Niclas Füllkrug in his second game back at the club, the winger’s performances quickly deteriorated in the following games to the point where the German media began to raise serious concerns.

But Sancho finally ended his goal drought against Werder Bremen, and it was also a really wonderful goal. But not all of the Man Utd flops who participated in the match had a pleasant experience.

Sancho wins, and Sabitzer becomes upset.
With a neat burst of pace, Sancho beat his man and slotted the ball past Werder goalkeeper Michael Zetterer with ease. Donyell Malen, a guy Man Utd will regret not signing in January, opened the scoring with an odd bicycle kick that miraculously nutmegged the keeper. The 23-year-old’s goal turned out to be the game-winning goal.

Though Justin Njinmah, who had strangely spent the previous season on loan at Dortmund, scored, BVB prevailed in the end thanks to Sancho’s strike. Marcel Sabitzer, a man who is now forgotten, made their mission much more difficult.

To the dismay of Dortmund supporters, the Austrian midfielder saw himself sent off during first-half stoppage time and didn’t even challenge the decision. The 29-year-old, who was on loan at Manchester United, has struggled thus far for the Black and Yellow.

Bremen used young Isak Hansen-Aarøen as a stand-in. He was once touted as the future Martin Odegaard. The 19-year-old left Manchester United to join the Bundesliga’s biggest team in January, but he hasn’t played for his new team yet.

Regarding Sancho, the Red Devils will undoubtedly be hoping that he can build on his opening goal in order to raise his profile in time for the summer transfer window. Since joining Manchester United, the winger’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) has decreased by more than €70 million.
