LEEDS UNITED WILL BE CELEBRATING THIRE PAST LEGENDS ON THE …
Two years ago, Leeds United and Her Game Too proudly announced their partnership and to celebrate the special anniversary we have dedicated this Sky Bet Championship fixture against Stoke City to the relationship, ahead of International Women’s Day.
From the outset, Leeds United have aimed to ensure Elland Road is a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, including women and young females. The partnership is devoted to tackling sexism and creating a more welcoming environment for all women in football.
To help celebrate the second anniversary along with International Women’s Day, which takes place on Friday 8th March, Her Game Too have invited 11 aspiring female footballers from local team, Howden Clough Junior Club (JC), to be our mascots for the dedicated match. The 11 youngsters will enjoy a special matchday experience and will lead the team out wearing branded Her Game Too t-shirts.
Throughout the two-year partnership, the club has worked on a number of campaigns alongside Her Game Too (HGT) and our Leeds United HGT representatives, Levi Macleod and formerly Jessica Furness. Earlier this season, to welcome Levi as our new ambassador, she was invited to Thorp Arch training ground along with the youngsters from Howden Clough JC for a Leeds United Women’s training session, with the girls on hand to ask plenty of questions and see firsthand how their training sessions unfold.
Her Game Too have also recently started working with the club’s official charity, the Leeds United Foundation, creating bespoke workshops that will be delivered in local schools to raise awareness around inclusion and how to stay safe, as well as engaging with young students on the importance of making better choices in all realms of life.
Levi Macleod, the Leeds United representative for Her Game Too, said: “For the young mascots that will walk out with the team this afternoon, representing the club and Her Game Too, it will hopefully help to inspire other young girls and let them know that football is for everyone. I know it will be a dream come true for all of them.
“Working with Her Game Too has enabled me to do so many positive things, one of them is being given the opportunity to speak with local grassroots teams to encourage conversations with their female players around promoting inclusion, children’s mental health and how football can have a positive impact. Being able to work alongside the club has really contributed to those conversations, helping me to reach more people and really engage youngsters in the discussions we are trying to start.”
