Ethan Ampadu has prolong his contract with leeds till …
It was not that Ethan Ampadu had been completely sidelined by Chelsea. Up until the end of last week, when a bid for him arrived from Leeds United, Chelsea had him down for their tour to the USA as part of Mauricio Pochettino’s pre-season squad. The club travelled on Monday and Ampadu expected to have a seat on the plane.
Leeds United have confirmed the signing of 22-year-old Ethan Ampadu from Chelsea in a permanent transfer.
The versatile defender, who can also function effectively in midfield, has inked a four-year deal with the Whites, extending till the summer of 2027.
Ampadu, who kick-started his career with Exeter City, holds the record as the youngest player to debut for their first team at the age of 15 in August 2016.
He then moved to Chelsea in 2017 after making 13 appearances for Exeter City. His first match for Chelsea was in the EFL Cup against Nottingham Forest.
His performance played a crucial role in Wales qualifying for UEFA Euro 2020 and the FIFA World Cup in June 2022 – the first time since 1958. He played three times in both UEFA Euro 2020 and FIFA World Cup 2022.
Before his transfer to Leeds, Ampadu spent four seasons on loan, playing with RB Leipzig in Germany, Sheffield United in the Premier League, and then with Venezia and Spezia in Italy’s Serie A. Over these two campaigns, he appeared 60 times on the pitch.
Now the first summer signing for Leeds, Ampadu could debut in the club’s pre-season friendly with AS Monaco.
Reflecting on his transfer, Ampadu said, “Everyone knows how big of a club Leeds United is. When I spoke with the boss [Daniel Farke], he really impressed me. He told me what he liked about me and where he thinks I can improve as a player. That all helped me choose Leeds United.”
