Takeaways From The Momentum Podcast

Miami quarterback Jaccuri Brown is a fun person to listen to.

After a redshirt season of honing in on himself and being able to show out in the Pinstripe Bowl against Rutgers, Brown joined the Momentum Podcast to discuss his time at Miami.

The following are notable takeaways from Brown during the podcast:

Brown was asked to help bring in Alabama transfer Isaiah Bond, who was one of the top transfers in the portal and eventually ended up at Texas. Brown and Bond took multiple visits together to Miami as recruits, and Brown said that he knew Bond, “He’s going to the highest bidder.”
Brown mentioned that he believes Miami will still add another receiver in the transfer portal, especially at the X-receiver position with Colbie Young now off at Georgia. Pay attention now to see if any Michigan players jump to the portal now or for Miami to find their Young replacement during the spring window.
Brown talked about the differences in the coaching staff from the Manny Diaz era (his freshman year) to the now Mario Cristobal era. He said there was a lot of negativity in the culture during Diaz’s final year, but now Cristobal has really got everyone to buy into the revamped culture.
Brown also shared insight into his decision to redshirt and play on the scout team, as it allowed him to focus on himself and improve as a player. He was presented plenty of opportunities to be used as a “runner,” but embraced the opportunity to lead the scout team with the walk-ons.
One of the more interesting pieces of the podcast was when Brown talked about the Florida State game, and that he was expecting to be the one to replace Emory Williams after his injury in the fourth quarter. Given that it was known Tyler Van Dyke was likely headed to the portal as well as the reps he took during practice, he was surprised he wasn’t the choice.

  • Otherwise looking forward to next season, Brown is looking forward to meshing well with the new quarterback room as the longest-tenured Hurricane player in the room. He also wants to take on more of a leadership role on the team and make sure everyone is treated fairly.
  • Overall it was a mixed bag of emotions from Brown, as it doesn’t seem like he is 100% locked in with Miami going forward as he did mention the possibility of leaving if it doesn’t end up being the right fit long-term.
