Bengals, Patriots, Steelers, J.J. McCarthy, Drake Maye, and others rejoice following the draft
The day before the day has arrived. The NFL Draft, also known as the 2024 NFL Player Selection Meeting, will officially begin tomorrow night when Roger Goodell steps onto a stage in Detroit.
You can relax, though, if you were concerned that the rumors would stop.
The gossip machine is still going strong. Come with me for a ride.
Did the Raiders give anything away?
The Las Vegas Raiders are among the teams said to be interested in signing a quarterback this spring, although it’s unclear how serious they are about doing so.
In any case, it did.
In an apparent attempt to choose a quarterback, the Raiders attempted to move up to No. 2 in a trade with the Washington Commanders, according to reports released on Tuesday.
The Raiders could conceivably go with Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell this season and defer their choice about a quarterback until next spring. Furthermore, the Raiders’ requirements extend beyond the quarterback position.
However, it appears that they may be more intrigued by quarterbacks than previously believed.
Why J.J. McCarthy and Drake Maye might be important players at the top of the draft
In a blog published on Tuesday, Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports offered several pre-draft picks. Among them was a long hypothetical situation in which Robinson argues that Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy—rather than Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels—are “critical” to the draft.
Robinson penned this:
“There is a growing understanding among NFL teams that McCarthy is not the primary target in a potential trade-up for the Vikings, despite a great lot of projection since March 15 — when the Minnesota Vikings traded for the Houston Texans’ No. 23 overall choice. Rather, Maye is thought to be Minnesota’s primary target. Josh McCown, the quarterbacks coach, and he are connected; McCown coached Maye in high school. The Vikings may have difficulties if the quarterback position at the top of the draft is compromised.
