SUNDOWNS STAR THEMBINKOSI LORCH WAS CONVICTED OF ASSAULT
Previously, Sundowns midfielder Thembinkosi Lorch was handed a suspended sentence for assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Fundiswa Nokuphiwa Mathithibala.
The incident took place in September 2020, whilst Lorch was still an Orlando Pirates player. He left The Sea Robbers in January this year to join the DStv Premiership defending champions.
Lorch was found guilty in June last year and was handed a three-year direct imprisonment sentence (which was suspended for five years) in November.
According to Legal Wise, when someone is handed a suspended sentence, it is placed on hold completely or partly for a period not longer than five years. A suspended sentence may be subject to certain conditions, for example, that a person is not allowed to commit a similar criminal offence during the suspension of his or her sentence.
Should the accused break any of the conditions the suspended sentence is subject to, the full sentence will be put in force, and the accused will then have to go to jail.
LORCH AND NATASHA’S BREAK-UP SPARKS ABUSE ALLEGATIONS
Lorch was again suspected of abuse in February this year after his ex-girlfriend and baby mama Natasha Thahane shared cryptic posts on her social media following their break-up.
After revealing that she and the Sundowns star had “mutually decided to part ways romantically”, the Blood & Water actress shared a short clip from United States (US) singer Rihanna. The clip showed the musician opening up about the night her ex-boyfriend and fellow musician, Chris Brown, physically abused her.
In the 2009 ABC News interview, the Barbados-born songtress can be heard saying: “All I kept thinking all the time: When is it going to stop? When it is going to stop?”
While Natasha did not state why she and the former Orlando Pirates star broke up, fans believed her cryptic post was a cry for help.
This was also fuelled by a screenshot of an interaction purportedly between Natasha and one of her followers on Instagram, Minenhle Dlamini, who asked, “ukushayile nawe?” which means “did he also hit you?”
Although there is no response to the question, the screenshot shows that the author of the original post liked the comment.
The former Skeem Saam actress again shared a cryptic post, saying: “I’m grateful I came out alive.”
