The ex-Villa scout has likened the 26-year-old midfielder, who is out of contract with Coventry City in June, to John McGinn.

It comes after a report in Birmingham World (30 April) revealed that Unai Emery’s side, alongside West Ham and Fulham, are interested in O’Hare, who came through Villa’s academy before moving to Coventry.

And King – speaking exclusively to Villa News – believes O’Hare would jump at the opportunity to make a return to Villa Park.

“O’Hare is a good player, he reminds me of McGinn a little bit,” King said.

“He had a good season but was understandably disappointed after the goal which he assisted was ruled out in the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United.

O’Hare would surely find it difficult to refuse the opportunity to make a return to his boyhood club, especially considering the current trajectory they’re on.

And with the Englishman set to be available on a free transfer, that makes things very easy from Villa’s point of view.

All that is left now is for Emery to make a decision on the player, and if the Spaniard decides that he needs someone like O’Hare, then it is difficult to see this move not getting across the line.

In other Aston Villa news, King has shared an Emiliano Martinez admission after a recent injury update.
