promise to move Lakers up Organisation Thinks Donovan Mitchell of the Cavaliers Could Be Purchased This Summer
The Los Angeles Lakers are still the centre of attention because the trade deadline is quickly approaching. With all of their difficulties this season, it seemed certain at first that the Lakers would make a major trade; but, it is now more likely that, should they make a trade at all, it will be a little one to strengthen the squad.
The Lakers’ current lack of trade assets is one of the causes of this. In the summer, they will not have to trade their single first-round pick. The Lakers have the option to make a significant trade in the offseason by trading three draft picks, and it seems like they have their sights set on a single high-profile All-Star guard.
If the Lakers hold onto their picks, they think they have a chance to acquire Cleveland Cavaliers guard Donovan Mitchell, according to Bill Reiter of CBS Sports.
A player like Mitchell is a game-changer, therefore it’s definitely worth holding onto assets for him. The guard for the Cavaliers is currently fifth in the NBA in scoring, and he scored 71 points in a game just a year ago. He is a versatile player who can play both on and off the ball, making him a solid fit next to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. If LeBron’s playing days are over, he could also partner with Davis as his primary scoring option.
Rumours have long persisted thathose contract with the Cavaliers expires in 2025, will not re-sign with the team. Consequently, the Cavaliers might try to trade him and get back some of the assets they had to give up in order to get him. There will be competition, but the Lakers have the contracts and some young players that might tempt Cleveland. In addition, the prospect of three picks might make it worthwhile.
It makes sense that the Lakers wouldn’t be eager to trade their current superstar for a player who won’t have nearly the same impact if they really think they have a shot at Mitchell. It’s a risk, but in the long run, it might be necessary.
