In the midst of creating records for the most points scored in a PSL league season and the most wins in a single league campaign, here are some of Mamelodi Sundowns’ most defining moments of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season. Uneaten on the away earth. While the Brazilians feature one of the finest attacking lineups in the PSL, the Tshwane side’s defensive record was crucial in earning their seventh league title in a row. Sundowns conceded only 11 goals this season, the fewest of any team in South Africa’s top division. Sundowns, led by Ronwen Williams in goal, have kept 20 clean sheets, one shy of Kaizer Chiefs’ record set in 2003/04.

As the most dominant side in the league, Sundowns also recorded eight league doubles, a record they share alongside Manning Rangers (completed in the 1996/97 season). Downs also jotted down eight league doubles under the tutelage of Pitso Mosimane during the 2015/16 campaign.

Sweeping Chiefs aside

Sundowns were afforded the opportunity to clinch the 2023/24 league title against Kaizer Chiefs on the 2nd of May, of which Rulani Mokwena and company managed to accomplish in devastating fashion. With Amakhosi battling to emulate their glory days, Sundowns ran out as 5-1 victors against Chiefs and were officially crowned 14-time champions of the South African league at the FNB Stadium.
