Obi Ezeh, a former football player for the Michigan Wolverines, passed away at the age of 36, according to both his mother and the university.

Michigan football posted on X/Twitter, saying, “We are saddened to hear about the passing of former Wolverine linebacker Obi Ezeh.” We are sending our condolences to his friends, family, and former teammates. I hope he finds peace.”

The precise circumstances behind Ezeh’s passing are still unknown.

After his death, his mother paid tribute to her son.

“My very own!” My older brother. My second choice. my heart. The heart of my father. My silent behemoth. Grandchild of an elephant. “Godspeed on your journey to your maker,” Ezeh’s mother wrote on Facebook. “My Obinna Ezeh, you will always be in my heart my beloved son.”

Ezeh played for the Wolverines for five seasons, making 13 total appearances and 10 starts in his second season after being redshirted.

Ezeh had perhaps his best year as a college student the next year, leading the team with 98 stops in 12 starts at middle linebacker and receiving coaches’ and media’s honourable mention for All-Big Ten.

Ezeh, a redshirt junior, finished with 69 tackles, five for a loss, two breakups, and a fumble recovery, earning him a semifinalist spot for the Butkus Award.

Throughout his tenure at Michigan, Ezeh had 49 appearances and totaled 293 tackles, 19.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, and two interceptions.

During his tenure, Michigan had a 35-28 record with Lloyd Carr and Rich Rodriguez as head coaches.

A few weeks after signing as an undrafted free agent, he was cut by the Washington Redskins.
