  • Detroit Lions awards | 2023 season

The NFL season of 2023 is already officially history.

The Detroit Lions clinched their first-ever NFC North title and made it to the NFC Championship Game for the first time since 1992, thus even if it fell just short of their ultimate goal, it was still a memorable one.

Before we totally shift our attention to the offseason, let’s give some Lions their roses. It looks like it will take a lot of memorable performances and significant situations to make it happen.

I asked the staff at Detroitlions.com to select season honors, and the following are the outcomes:

Tim Twentyman’s MVP: The offensive line

In 2023, Detroit’s 6,712 total net yards and 58 touchdowns scored set franchise records for a single season. That group, despite injuries, was among the best in sport, and it was the main factor in the Lions ranking in the top five in the NFL for both passing and running.

Mike O’Hara: Jared Goff, the quarterback

From the first game victory over the Chiefs to the game’s conclusion against the 49ers, he demonstrated both production and leadership.

PJ’s Choice: Middle Frank Ragnow

My team MVP is Ragnow because of his tenacity in the face of numerous injuries, which led to his selection for the Pro Bowl, his inclusion on the second team of the All-Pro, and his evaluation as PFF’s finest center. Without 77 on the field, Goff and the offense aren’t the same.

Editor’s Choice: Jared Goff, the quarterback

Goff performed at a high level throughout the season. He guided the Lions to two home playoff victories and their first NFC North championship. All around Michigan, people were screaming Jar-ed Goff, Jar-ed Goff, for a cause. Player of the Year for Offense
Tim Twentyman: Jared Goff, the quarterback

Goff had again another outstanding season, ranking second among all quarterbacks with 4,575 passing yards, fourth with 30 touchdown passes, first with 605 passing first downs, and second with 69 completions of 20 yards or more. With his background and skill set, he is the ideal quarterback in offensive coordinator Ben Johnson’s scheme.

Mike O’Hara: Amon-Ra St. Brown, wide receiver

1,515 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 119 catches throughout the regular season. He is deserving of his All-Pro status.

PJ’s Selection: Take Penei Sewell on.

As a captain for the 2023 Lions, a first-team All-Pro, and the offensive lineman with the best PFF grade, Sewell kept setting new records in just his third season. He continues to prove why, in my opinion, he is the finest offensive lineman in football this season.

Editor’s Choice: Amon-Ra St. Brown, wide receiver

You go to St. Brown when you need a play. (Including postseason): Of his 141 receptions, 93 were for first downs.
