the School of Sport Sciences 2026 four-star prospect Keisean Henderson.

Before starting his junior year, the outstanding 6-foot-2, 180-pound playmaker had received numerous scholarships and was still receiving offers.

Olivier Nkamhoua of Michigan will have season-ending surgery, the school announced.
Nkamhoua scored 14.8 points and pulled down 7.1 rebounds per game, ranking second on the squad.

The season has been difficult for the Michigan men’s basketball team in a lot of ways. And it was considerably more difficult on Wednesday.

The Wolverines declared that star forward Olivier Nkamhoua, who was second on the team in scoring and rebounding per game at 14.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game, would have wrist surgery to conclude the season and would miss Michigan’s last five games of the regular season.

Decisions like this are never easy,” Nkamhoua said in a press release. “Playing with this injury became taxing and we knew something had to be done. I feel like I wasn’t able to finish what I came here to do. However, the support and love from the coaches, my teammates and everyone involved with this program has been so amazing.”

Nkamhoua, a graduate transfer from Tennessee, scored 21 points or more in double figures this season to lead Michigan. He scored more than 15 points in 14 of those games, and he also scored 20 points or more against Long Beach State, Florida, UNC-Asheville, Ohio State, and Florida. In Michigan’s last eight games, he had not scored more than 15 points, and during that stretch, he had eight of his season’s 12 lowest scoring performances. In his most recent game, an eight-man turnover count cost him a home defeat over Michigan State.

I will always be grateful for the chance to play under a coach like Coach Howard after moving to Ann Arbor, said Nkamhoua. I am incredibly grateful to Chris Williams and his training team for everything they have done to support me both this season and moving forward with my recuperation. Being able to say that I attended this outstanding university makes me proud. Being a Michigan Wolverine makes me proud.”

Nkamhoua participated in 138 games throughout his time as a college student, making 84 consecutive starts. In addition to his 1,117 points of scoring, he pulled down 612 rebounds, 89 blocks, 52 steals, and 183 assists (1.3 apg).

With three to four months to recover from the surgery, he might be able to work out for NBA teams before the draft. On June 27, the NBA Draft will occur.

For Olivier, this is not how things were supposed to be,” Howard remarked. “He added maturity, class, wisdom, and leadership to the college right away. I consider myself extremely fortunate to have gained so much knowledge from him in both on and off the court contexts. It was time to take action, even if he was acting like a true warrior despite his wounds. We are confident that this will pass and that he will resume his brilliant playing career. We feel incredibly fortunate to have played a tiny role in his journey.”

The Wolverines are currently 3-12 in the Big Ten and 8-18 overall on the season, having already been without Dug McDaniel for road games since January. Their expected loss total for the next five regular season games is two games, which puts them two games behind the leaders in the Big Ten. Unless something changes, Michigan will place last in the Big Ten conference for the first time since the 1966–67 year.

On Thursday, Michigan will go to Northwestern to play Northwestern without McDaniel or Nkamhoua.
