Ohio’s Cleveland—Dr. James Voos, an expert in Cleveland orthopedics, has been chosen to serve as the NFL Physicians Society’s next president.
At the group’s annual meeting on Thursday, Voos, the chief team physician for the Cleveland Browns and chair of orthopedics and sports medicine at University Hospitals, was unanimously elected.
For a two-year term, he will succeed Dr. Timothy McAdams, the departing NFLPS president and chief team physician of the San Francisco 49ers.
The election of James Voos as NFLPS president fills me with great joy. As the Cleveland Browns’ team physician for many years, he has consistently shown excellent clinical judgment, strong leadership abilities, and high caliber, influential research. He is the perfect candidate to lead this esteemed organization because of all of these qualities, according to a prepared statement from the society from McAdams.
In 1966, the NFL Physicians Society was established. The society states that its goals are to provide the National Football League’s participants with the best possible medical and surgical care, as well as guidance and assistance for the athletic trainers who look after the players.
“I am appreciative of Dr. McAdams’ and the NFLPS Board’s leadership, and it is a privilege to represent the NFLPS. In a written statement, Voos declared, “I am dedicated to carrying out the mission of delivering the best possible care to NFL players and supporting the accomplished physician members of this society.”
Since 2014, Voos has been the Cleveland Browns’ head team physician. He serves as executive director of the UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center in addition to his position with the Browns. In addition, he serves as the chief orthopedic surgeon for several high schools and colleges in Northeast Ohio.
He has previously worked as the chief physician for the Kansas City Ballet, team physician for the Kansas City Chiefs, and assistant team physician for the WNBA’s New York Liberty and the New York Giants. He currently serves as the Cleveland Ballet’s head physician.
Dee Haslam, managing partner of the Cleveland Browns, said in a written statement, “We could not think of anyone more deserving.” “We are extremely proud of Dr. Voos for being elected to the role of NFLPS President.” “Over the past ten years, Dr. Voos has performed an outstanding job working with our athletes and the entire Browns organization.”
In addition to being board-certified in orthopedic surgery and holding “a subspecialty certificate of added qualification in sports medicine,” Voos is also a member of the American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine.
After graduating from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, he worked at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York for his orthopedic surgery residency and sports medicine fellowship.
In the fields of sports medicine and orthopedic surgery, he has authored over 100 scholarly publications.
