Rumors suggesting Manuel Neuer might depart Bayern Munich have been put to rest – the club icon has no intention of leaving the Allianz Arena.
Having joined Bayern from Schalke in 2011, Neuer has become one of the greatest goalkeepers in the club’s history, winning 30 trophies including 11 Bundesliga titles and two Champions League crowns. He extended his contract until 2026 in February 2025, stating he “really enjoy[s] playing football and want[s] to remain a Bayern player” and is “still hungry” for more success.
In January 2026, Neuer reaffirmed his commitment, noting he is optimistic about extending further beyond this summer but will make a final decision by late March or early April after assessing his form in the coming months. Despite Bayern planning a squad overhaul in 2026 and having potential successor Jonas Urbig in the team, Neuer continues to deliver top performances at 39 and remains an indispensable part of the side.
Bayern officials have also emphasized Neuer’s importance – sporting director Max Eberl called him “the best goalkeeper of his generation and a Bayern icon,” while Christoph Freund noted he “has been setting the bar for goalkeeping for over a decade”.
