Chargers Rumors: Could Jim Harbaugh Wind Up Back With Wolverines?
Where will the Michigan head coach go?
University of Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh, the reigning College Football Playoff national champion, has been long considered the head coaching candidate of choice for your Los Angeles Chargers, although that hasn’t prevented Bolts ownership from chatting with a variety of other contenders.
The Atlanta Falcons are also clearly interested in Harbaugh’s services, although after a second interview with ex-New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick recently, it appears they’re about to take themselves out of the running.
As Mike Florio of NBC Sports notes, suddenly the competition for Harbaugh could come down to Los Angeles and a Michigan return.
It could also be possible Harbaugh is using all this chatter as negotiating leverage, and will be happy to stay in Ann Arbor for an elevated salary. With Nick Saban now retiring, Harbaugh could become a recruiting institution before too long if he does stay in the college ranks.
Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh is one of the hottest names on the coaching market this season, and the Atlanta Falcons appear interested.
According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero, the Falcons are interviewing Harbaugh for a second time, joining only New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick as those to get another interview.
Harbaugh is one of the more unique candidates on the market considering he could return to the NFL with a team like the Falcons or Los Angeles Chargers, or he could go back to Michigan, where he just won the National Championship earlier this month.
“I just take the counsel from God and the Holy Spirit,” said Harbaugh while appearing at an anti-abortion rally in Washington, D.C.
Harbaugh is mulling whether to stay at Michigan – where he just won a national title – or go to the NFL.
“I juast tke the counsel from God and the Holy Spirit,” he said. “And Mr. Jack Harbaugh, my dad, and my wife, Sarah. Just taking the advice, living one day at a time. One day at a time, one game at a time, one play at a time.”
Harbaugh also said that there would be a “passing of the torch” next year, a suggestion that he might be ready to leave Michigan, which is dealing with an ongoing NCAA investigation involving cheating.
Harbaugh has been interviewed by the Falcons and by the Los Angeles Chargers, both of whom still have vacancies at head coach. He has ties to the Chargers, while the Falcons seem to be closing in on Bill Belichick as their choice.
