Linebacker for the Gators will attend the SEC Football Leadership Council meeting.
Derek Wingo, a junior linebacker for Florida football and a member of the Football Leadership Council for the Southeastern Conference, will be present at the SEC’s annual meeting on Friday and Saturday, February 2-3, at the SEC offices in Birmingham, Alabama.
Together with the men’s and women’s basketball leadership councils and the conference’s venerable student-athlete advisory committee, the football leadership council is one of the three elements that make up the SEC Student-Athlete Leadership committee.
The councils act as a channel of communication for concerns pertaining to the student-athlete experience, wellness, and playing regulations, and they give student-athletes more chances to interact with conference office personnel and university administrators.
This weekend’s agenda includes meetings with SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey, reviewing NCAA and SEC no legislative items, speaking with SEC Chief Medical Advisor Dr. Katie O’Neal, and discussing rules of the game, interactions between student-athletes and referees, and careers in officiating with football officials. According to FloridaGators.com, the panel will also examine SEC student-athlete participation potential.
DeVonta Smith (Alabama Crimson Tide), Cameron Ball (Arkansas Razorbacks), Eugene Asante (Auburn Tigers), Jalon Walker (Georgia Bulldogs), Eli Cox (Kentucky Wildcats), Josh Williams (LSU Tigers), JJ Pegues (Ole Miss Rebels), Hayes Hammond (Mississippi State Bulldogs), Kristian Williams (Missouri Tigers), Kai Kroeger (South Carolina Gamecocks), Omari Thomas (Tennessee Volunteers), Taurean York (Texas A&M Aggies), and Bryan Longwell (Vanderbilt Commodores) are the student-athletes who also make up the SEC Football Leadership Council.
