Why Miami should sign a former JMU quarterback
It can be quite difficult to stay on top of high school recruitment and the transfer portal. The fact that Group of Five schools don’t consistently receive national recruiting publicity makes it much more difficult.
In an effort to simplify things for ardent supporters of JMU football, we plan to compile information on the school’s 2024 high school recruiting class into a single page.
On December’s National Signing Day, JMU formally revealed the names of 11 signees. The remaining players who have shown their commitment through social media will probably follow suit soon.

offensive augmentations
OL Jake Hohenshelt Hohenshelt, a Pennsylvania prospect, switched to JMU instead of following Chesney to Holy Cross.
QB JC Evans On the first flip of National Signing Day, JC Evans, a 6’4′′, 205-pound quarterback from Miami Central High School in Miami, Florida, commits to the Dukes. Prior to JMU’s last-minute ability to flip Evans, a three-star recruit according to 247 Sports, he had committed to Jacksonville State and received offers from App State, UTSA, and UMass, among other schools.

Evans, a three-star prospect according to 247 Sports, had committed to Jacksonville State and had offers from a number of other schools, including App State, UTSA, and UMass, until JMU was able to steal him at the last minute.
Additions that are defensive
West Sahir, DE — In addition to Indiana and Charlotte, West, a recruit from Maryland, earned offers from additional programs. He has the capacity to grow into a formidable edge rusher.
JMU acquired Tyjai Hopper, a three-star defensive back from Alpharetta, Georgia. In addition to having offers from Akron, Charlotte, and App State, to mention a few, Hopper had committed to UConn.
Anthony Walker, LB: Walker, a recruit from North Carolina, was added to JMU. He has equally as much promise as Banks. At six feet tall, he is a little taller, and he had a good list of offers, which included Charlotte and App State. Walker was also courted by Delaware and Richmond, two of JMU’s former CAA peers.
LB Immanuel Ezeogu Ezeogu, who stands 6’3″, might grow into
if necessary, an edge rusher. According to the DNR, the Virginia prospect was adamant about attending JMU during the entire recruitment process.
Chase Regan, S. Regan’s dedication allowed the defensive backs to continue their onslaught. Regan, a safety from Pennsylvania, was offered by several FCS clubs, including Old Dominion, an FBS school. He had over twenty D1 offers, and he chose JMU.
DB Phillip Harris With Harris choosing JMU over ECU, West Virginia, Marshall, Coastal Carolina, and other schools, another prospect from North Carolina is joining the Dukes. He’s a fantastic addition to the JMU class.
Marcellus Nash, EDGE: A number of schools made offers to Nash, including Marshall, Penn State, Coastal Carolina, App State, and Arizona. In the end, the in-state defender chose JMU, adding another quality defensive player to the Dukes roster. One of the top prospects in JMU’s 2024 class is Nash.
DB Milton Ferguson In addition, Maryland, Miami, Virginia, and Virginia Tech extended offers to the three-star defensive back from Virginia Beach. Strong Power Five institutions expressed interest in him because he is a gifted player.
Keelan Flowe (KJ) DB – Flowe, a three-star defensive back, decided to join the Dukes after decommitting from West Virginia. The secondary talent in the Dukes’ 2024 class is exceptionally strong.
DB Tyler Brown This cycle, Brown is the first Maryland commitment to sign with JMU. He is yet another reneged on Bob Chesney and his team. As of June 19, Brown was a dedicated member of Liberty. In Severn, Maryland, at Archbishop Spalding, the 5’11” defensive back played safety.
Retractions
It looks like JMU will lose a few members of the 2024 class when Cignetti moves to Indiana.
In Indiana, Mario Landino, DL Talented defensive lineman Landino is going to Indiana with Cignetti.
QB Alberto Mendoza, Indianapolis After Cignetti left, Mendoza formally switched from JMU to Indiana University. According to 24/7 Sports, the Miami prospect is a 3-star recruit.
Ndukwe, Daniel, Edge, Indiana Ndukwe announced his departure for Indiana on social media.
North Carolina native Dontrae Henderson was offered by Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, East Carolina, Marshall, and S. Indiana. In the end, Henderson chose to play at Indiana for Cignetti.
Boyd, Jah Jah, CB, IN At the time, this was a significant commitment. The top-ranked high school student to ever commit to JMU was Boyd. Prospect Boyd from Pennsylvania had offers from Wake Forest, Virginia Tech, Penn State, and Boston College. He is traveling to Indiana with Cignetti.
Keenan Phillips, RB: After considering offers from App State, Boston College, NC State, Troy, and Tulane, Phillips chose JMU. He made the announcement on Instagram. The gifted Georgia running back is incredibly nimble and frequently gets away from opponents in confined situations. In addition to playing running back, he can return kicks.
Marshall and Charlotte were two of the colleges who recruited the North Carolina product, Nate Crosby Jr., RB. A versatile player, he has the ability to catch and run.
God What a name, Deablo, EDGE! Additionally, App State, Boston College, and ODU extended offers to Deablo, a resident of North Carolina. With his 6’5″ height and 230 pounds, Deablo has a lot of promise as an outside rusher.
Davis, Ronnell S. – JMU Delaware’s defensive back was initially recruited ahead of West Virginia, but he has subsequently decommitted.
LB’s Bryson Banks At just 5’9″, Banks is tiny, but he has a lot of promise. Among the universities that offered Banks were UCF, UConn, Navy, and Army. Had he been a few inches taller, he would have been a the focus of multiple Power Five clubs. Georgia is the home of his high school football team.
