Jimmie Johnson, a driver inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, will be making a significant comeback to racing. When he joins the Extreme E racing series in a few short weeks, the seven-time NASCAR champion will resume his illustrious motorsports career offroad.

The team revealed on Monday that Johnson will compete in the series alongside the group he co-owns, Legacy Motor Club. The FIA-approved Extreme E series races electric SUVs on off-road circuits in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East.

Johnson, who was born in California, has competed in races for the Southern California Off Road Enthusiasts (SCORE) series, the Short-course Off-road Drivers Association (SODA), and the Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group (MTEG) Stadium Racing Series. In the Baja 1000, he became the youngest driver to win the Trophy Truck division. Johnson won six titles, 25 victories, 100 Top 3 finishes, and Rookie of the Year awards in each of the three leagues during his off-road career.

This weekend in Saudi Arabia will mark the commencement of the Extreme E series’ first two rounds. Pastrana, a multi-disciplinary gold medallist at the X Games and three-time motocross champion, will be joining the series for the first time in Johnson’s place.

“I’m really excited, but this came together pretty quick,” he exclaimed. “Although I’ve never driven an Extreme E Odyssey 21, I have a good deal of experience with electric cars. We should have a great time, although I compete in a lot of off-road and desert events, primarily on two wheels. When Jimmie Johnson asked, it was an obvious answer since I support him, Legacy MC, and everything he is doing with the Club.
“Gray is a tremendous talent, and we have worked together before, so altogether, this is a fantastic opportunity for both of us to compete in this championship series together. She possesses the speed and is the best young female talent in Nitro Cross.

Thus, perhaps, we Americans will win and go home with a smile on our faces, doing our country proud.

Pastrana is prepared to clash with a competitor on the track once more since he has his sights set on them already in the series.

He remarked mockingly, “I’ve never beaten Mattias [Ekström] at anything.” And I want to defeat him at something before he retires! Considering that, I suppose my two main motivations for taking part in this tournament are to support my friend Jimmie and defeat Mattias for the first time in my life.

When Extreme E travels to Europe in July, Johnson will join the series and drive beside Leadbetter. In November, he will wrap out the season in the United States.

Johnson stated, “We want to see what the future holds and learn as much as we can.” We are particularly interested in this series since it competes on a worldwide scale and emphasizes inclusiveness, equality, and sustainability. Technically speaking, the transition to hydrogen in 2025 is really exciting, and the motorsports world as a whole is paying careful attention. Going back to my off-road roots and the kind of racing I began my career with will be a blast for me as a driver.
