Will Auburn be able to land a top in-state prospect?
Auburn Is Up Against Tough Competition To Land Top RB Prospect
Auburn needs to win the battle, regardless of which colleges pursue this top prospect.
Alvin Henderson was the Auburn coaching staff’s top target even prior to a 2024 recruiting class that did not contain a running back. Given that Auburn did not sign a running back in the last class and that Henderson is a top prospect from southern Alabama, Auburn clearly needs to sign him. This is how he fared in the previous season.
The great player from Elba (Ala.) High School is coming off a junior season in which he ran for 3,523 yards and 61 touchdowns, according to Max Preps. Henderson finished the 2023 season with 124 yards, 1 score, and 5 receptions.
Auburn has been in the running for the #25 Rivals recruit in the 2025 class. Several head coaches and elite assistants have visited Elba High School to scout Hugh Freeze, and there’s no reason to think he and his staff haven’t remained in the lead.
The competition has intensified.
A number of coaches visited with Henderson, including Miami’s Mario Cristobal and Ole Miss’s Lane Kiffin. Henderson went to the University of Miami on January 27 in an attempt to make a point with the latter coach.
The Canes are undoubtedly in the running for Henderson because he visited Miami on an unofficial basis only last season. Currently, a number of other teams are genuinely pursuing him.
Henderson’s X timeline includes images of him with Ole Miss running backs coach Kevin Smith, Georgia Tech running backs coach Norval McKenzie, and coaches like Kiffin from the Rebels on only one day, February 1.
