Auburn Is Up Against Tough Competition To Land Top RB Prospect

Auburn needs to win the battle, regardless of which colleges pursue this top prospect.

Alvin Henderson was the Auburn coaching staff’s top target even prior to a 2024 recruiting class that did not contain a running back. Given that Auburn did not sign a running back in the last class and that Henderson is a top prospect from southern Alabama, Auburn clearly needs to sign him. This is how he fared in the previous season.

The great player from Elba (Ala.) High School is coming off a junior season in which he ran for 3,523 yards and 61 touchdowns, according to Max Preps. Henderson finished the 2023 season with 124 yards, 1 score, and 5 receptions.

Auburn has been in the running for the #25 Rivals recruit in the 2025 class. Several head coaches and elite assistants have visited Elba High School to scout Hugh Freeze, and there’s no reason to think he and his staff haven’t remained in the lead.

The competition has intensified.

A number of coaches visited with Henderson, including Miami’s Mario Cristobal and Ole Miss’s Lane Kiffin. Henderson went to the University of Miami on January 27 in an attempt to make a point with the latter coach.

The Canes are undoubtedly in the running for Henderson because he visited Miami on an unofficial basis only last season. Currently, a number of other teams are genuinely pursuing him.

Henderson’s X timeline includes images of him with Ole Miss running backs coach Kevin Smith, Georgia Tech running backs coach Norval McKenzie, and coaches like Kiffin from the Rebels on only one day, February 1.

Kalen DeBoer of Alabama and a few of his assistants paid Henderson a visit on January 31. The same day, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart stopped by with running backs coach Dell McGee.

Teams are vying for Henderson’s services because of his extraordinary potential; also, Auburn lost running backs coach Cadillac Williams, who had a tight relationship with the gifted back, from the staff.

Thankfully for Auburn, Derrick Nix, the team’s recently acquired offensive coordinator and running backs coach, is also having an effect. He had only come to Elba to watch Henderson play hoops. This image was taken on February 1.

Nix will be a great asset to Auburn’s recruiting efforts after serving as one of Kiffin’s top recruiters at Ole Miss. He plays a significant role in Auburn’s efforts to sign Henderson.
In addition to the previously listed institutions, three other schools are vying for Henderson’s services: Florida State, Tennessee, and Penn State. Having said that, Auburn’s mantra has always been the same, regardless of the strength of the opposition.

Henderson is a unique talent from Alabama, Auburn’s home recruiting base. He fills a need in the recruiting class of 2025 and can make a significant impact.

Henderson is a prospect Auburn’s recruiting efforts absolutely must have.
