Packers release RB Aaron Jones
Seven seasons were spent by the third-leading rusher in franchise history in Green Bay.
RB Aaron Jones has been released by the Green Bay Packers. Manager Brian Gutekunst made the announcement on the transaction on Monday.
“We want to thank Aaron for his unwavering commitment to the Packers and the community over the past seven seasons,” said Gutekunst. “It is undoubtedly one of the most difficult choices we have faced during my tenure with the Packers, and it is not one that is made lightly. Not only has he had a notable
impact on the field and in the locker room, but he is one of the most beloved players in the community. We wish nothing but the best for Aaron and his entire family moving forward.”

He was crucial in creating our winning culture when I became the Green Bay Packers’ first head coach and was always the best illustration of what it meant to be a Packer. One of the best athletes I ever had the chance to coach was Aaron, and he will always be. He will be missed, as will his mother Vurgess, son Junior, and extended family.”
After being picked by the Packers in the fifth round (182nd overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft, Jones, a product of the University of Texas-El Paso, started all seven of his Green Bay’s postseason games and participated in 97 regular-season games. The lone player in the NFL is him.in league history to record more than 5,000 rushing yards (5,940), 45 rushing touchdowns (45), an average of more than 5.0 yards per carry (5.04), more than 250 catches (272), more than 2,000 receiving yards (2,076), and more than 15 receiving touchdowns (18) in his first seven seasons. Jones is the franchise’s owner.record for average yards per carry (minimum 750 att.) and is ranked among the top five in the franchise’s history in terms of rushing attempts (No. 4, 1,177), rushing yards (No. 3), 100-yard rushing games (20, No. 3), and 1,000-yard rushing seasons (three, t-No. 3).4. After a 2020 season in which he finished fourth in the league with 1,104 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 201 carries (5.49 avg.), he was chosen for the Pro Bowl. He also broke the franchise record for yards per carry (minimum 200 att.) in a single season, surpassing FB Jim Taylor’s 1962 mark of 5.42 yards per carry (272-1,474). Throughout his seven seasonsJones had a key role in helping the Green Bay Packers win three division crowns, make four postseason appearances, and make it to the NFC championship game twice.
