(AP) METAIRIE, LA Due to their involvement in a fight that occurred in Las Vegas in
February 2022, the NFL has suspended Colts defensive back Chris Lammons and star
running back Alvin Kamara of the Saints for three regular-season games apiece.
Two days after Kamara was excused from training camp to meet with Commissioner
Roger Goodell, the NFL made its announcement on Friday.
In an agreement with Las Vegas prosecutors, Kamara and Lammons entered a plea
of not guilty to misdemeanor charges last month, avoiding a trial and possible jail
time.
After winning offensive rookie of the year in 2017, Kamara has been one of New
Orleans’ most effective rushers and receivers.
Speaking Friday following practice, but prior to the suspension being made public,
Kamara was remorseful and stated that he wanted to make better choices in the
future.
“I never want to be a part of anything that causes someone to suffer serious injuries
or any other kind of harm. I made a poor decision and had poor judgment,” Kamara
remarked. “I was utterly incorrect, embarrassed my mother, my family, and the
Saints.” I felt ashamed.
“If I said it wasn’t tough, I’d be lying,” Kamara remarked. Over the course of this ordeal,
I’ve lost a lot. I’m not searching for sympathy or for someone to give me a pat on the
back and say, “It’s okay.” I’m aware of what I did. I accept responsibility, too. That’s a
necessary aspect of maturing as a guy. I just need to choose wisely and make the
appropriate decisions from this point on.
