A Helensburgh choir raised hundreds of pounds for the local lifeboat crew at a special concert in Glasgow.
At their 60th anniversary concert on Sunday, February 18, at Glasgow’s City Halls, the Helensburgh Oratorio Choir raised £700 for the RNLI in Helensburgh.
Prior to the group’s rehearsal last week, choir chair Alicia Tindal gave the check to Penny French, the local RNLI representative.
According to Alicia, “Our choir is very happy to be able to donate to our local lifeboat, especially since this year’s concert was all about ships and the sea and it’s the RNLI’s 200th anniversary.”
Members of the choir have already begun rehearsing for their upcoming performance, an evening of “Choral Favorites,” which takes place on Saturday, May 11 at Helensburgh Parish Church.
The group will be holding a charity collection throughout the free event.
Alicia is eager for more people to join the choir and invites those who are interested to get in touch.
“We’ve had an incredible golden jubilee year and are now anticipating our next performance,” she continued.
“Please do get in touch; we are always looking for new members and the upcoming concert has some great music.”
Since its founding in 1963, the Helensburgh Oratorio Choir has given numerous performances of classical choral works.
The ensemble practices weekly in the Helensburgh Parish Church under the direction of Susannah Wapshott, a professional musical director.
Due to a conflict with other events in the community, the choir has announced that it has rescheduled its upcoming “Come and Sing” concert.
The date of the ‘Operatorio’ event has been rescheduled from April 20 to Saturday, September 14.
