tiger medical team discovered Jack Flaherty with …
The right-hander for the Detroit Tigers was one of several athletes who confronted Tony Clark, the executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association, last Monday. The players wanted Harry Marino, a former MLBPA attorney, to take Bruce Meyer’s role as second-in-command behind Clark. And the conversation heated up.
Less than a week later, Flaherty and the other seven major leaguers on the union’s executive subcommittee authorized Clark to issue a statement saying, “We still have issues to discuss but one thing clear among the MLB executive subcommittee members is that this is no longer a Harry Marino discussion, in any respect.”
That was the start of yet another turbulent week inside the union. The subcommittee’s statement omitted any mention of Meyer’s fate. However, Flaherty expressed regret for his behavior during the discussion with Clark in an interview with The Athletic on Sunday. He also expressed hope that the events of the previous week will strengthen the union.
