Mahomes, 28, is signed through the 2031 season at a total cost of almost $500 million.

Mahomes restructured his contract before the 2021 season, as well. He signed a revised contract last year that moved up some money he was scheduled to receive in later years of the deal.

The Chiefs recently made cornerback L’Jarius Sneed their franchise player at a cost of almost $20 million against their cap. They also signed defensive tackle Chris Jones to a new contract, though he will count only $7.35 million against their cap this year.

Derrick Brown, a defensive tackle with the Carolina Panthers, and the organization reached a four-year contract extension on Friday. According to a source who spoke with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the $96 million deal has a $63.165 million guarantee.

The average salary on Brown’s agreement, $24 million annually, is the fourth most in the NFL for a defensive tackle. It is only behind Justin Madubuike of the Ravens, Chris Jones of the Chiefs, and Christian Wilkins of the Raiders, who all inked new deals as free agents in the offseason.

After Carolina moved to a 3-4 defensive scheme under coach Ejiro Evero in 2022, Brown—who had previously established a Panthers record for tackles by a lineman with 67—began to elevate his game.

According to ESPN Analytics/NFL Next Gen, Brown led the NFL with a 47% run stop victory rate and recorded a defensive lineman’s record 103 tackles. The 320-pound, 6-foot-5 Brown played in 89% of the Panthers’ snaps and was selected a Pro Bowler for the first time. He was also rarely off the field.

Throughout his four years in Carolina, Brown—who was selected seventh overall in 2020—has racked up 245 tackles and eight sacks.

The Houston Texans erased the last three years of wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ contract as part of their historic trade to acquire him, allowing him to become a free agent following this season, league sources informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Diggs received a raise and a guarantee of $22.52 million in 2024 from the Texans, who also transferred the $3.5 million promised to him for the next season into this one.

On Wednesday, the Texans acquired Diggs by handing Buffalo a 2025 second-round pick (via the Minnesota Vikings). A 2024 sixth-round pick (at pick No. 189 overall) and a 2025 fifth-round pick were also purchased by Houston. When the Texans traded their 2024 first-round pick to Minnesota last month, they also got that 2025 second-round pick from the Vikings.

The Texans now expect the best version of Stefon Diggs, who will be able to bargain for another long-term deal the following offseason, thanks to the contract adjustment.

In April 2022, Diggs, a three-time captain of the Bills, agreed to a four-year, $104 million contract deal with the organization. After trading for Diggs, the Bills will be responsible for $31.096 million in dead money the following season, per the Roster Management System. Based on analysis by ESPN Stats & Information, that will be the largest known dead money charge ever for a wide receiver in any season.

Diggs’ production decreased following the first six games of the 2023 season. He did not have another 100-yard receiving game the rest of the season and only caught three more touchdowns. Over the Bills’ final seven games of last season, including the playoffs, Diggs averaged 41.0 receiving yards per game and had zero touchdowns. It’s the only time in Diggs’ career that he has gone seven straight games without a touchdown.

Diggs, however, set a variety of team and league records during his time with the team, including being one of four players in NFL history to record four consecutive seasons with 100-plus receptions (Antonio Brown, Davante Adams and Marvin Harrison are the others).

Diggs is one of two receivers to be selected to the Pro Bowl in each of the past four seasons, along with Tyreek Hill.
