Angel perdomo has been declared by the doctor to early return …
Early in November, Atlanta grabbed 29-year-old Perdomo off waivers from the Pittsburgh Pirates. A few
weeks later, the Braves non-tendered him, but he is back with the team as an investment in the future. After
undergoing Tommy John surgery on October 6th, he will not be able to play in 2024; however, Atlanta will
still have the right to use his contract for 2025–2028 if he misses the entire season due to injury.
When healthy in 2023, Perdomo saw 30 appearances for the Pirates and went 3-2 with a 3.72 ERA. With an
even better FIP (3.01) than his ERA, Perdomo struck out 44 batters in his 29 innings of work. This fits with
Atlanta’s recent trend of acquiring players who should be able to improve their numbers in better settings.
Atlanta also sent newly acquired Evan White to AAA Gwinnett after passing him through waivers. Due to his
$17 million contract that he signed with the Seattle Mariners, it was unlikely that any other team would claim
him. Since he has more than three years of service time, he could theoretically choose free agency instead, but
doing so would mean giving up the remaining guaranteed money under the contract (since that takes five
years of service time). As a result, he is no longer on the 40-man roster.
