In an effort to find future open-wheel racing stars, the conglomerate firm Red Bull GmbH runs a driver development program
known as the Red Bull Junior Team, also known as the Red Bull Driver Academy. The American version of the same concept, held
in 2005, was called the Red Bull Driver Search, which has since discontinued. In lesser racing formulas, Red Bull provides
funding and sponsorship for members of the Junior Team.
A number of drivers have been successfully recruited by the programs to compete in Formula One. Max Verstappen, Pierre Gasly,
Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo, and Carlos Sainz Jr. are the five drivers who have triumphed in Formula One races; two of
them, Verstappen and Vettel, have won at least three World Championships. Red Bull Racing and RB are two of Red Bull’s
Formula One teams.
The Red Bull Junior Team was also known as RSM Marko, a Red Bull-sponsored team led by Helmut Marko that participated in
International Formula 3000 races from 1999 to 2003.
As part of Red Bull’s European driver program, the Red Bull Junior Team was established in 2001. For the program’s promising
young drivers, Red Bull provides financing and support. The first Red Bull Junior to compete in Formula One was Christian Klien
in 2004, and the first Red Bull Junior to win a Formula One Grand Prix was Sebastian Vettel in 2008, at the Italian Grand Prix.
2010 marked Vettel’s second year as a Red Bull Junior alumnus and his first Formula One World Championship victory.
To assist the team’s F1 Academy drivers, Red Bull established the Red Bull Ford Academy Programme in 2024.
