Manager Reveals Secret Ingredient to Phillies’ Success

Talent is perhaps one of the Philadelphia Phillies’ most evident factors in their recent success.

Dave Dombrowski, president of baseball operations, has assembled one of the best rosters in the league. This explains why the Phillies advanced to the NL Championship Series the previous year after winning the National League pennant in 2022.

The Phillies have also invested a significant amount of money in building that roster. Nine-figure deals are in place for right-handers Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler alongside right fielder Nick Castellanos, first baseman Bryce Harper, shortstop Trea Turner, and catcher J.T. Realmuto.

Third-year manager Rob Thomson is the one who ties everything together. Thomson has a 155-118 record since being elevated from bench coach to take Joe Girardi’s place 51 games into the 2022 season after a 22-29 start.

But Thomson feels that the Phillies are unique in more ways than just skill and his managerial prowess.

Philadelphia Phillies Enjoy Their Time Winning Thompson recently discussed that part of his club with Heavy.com while at the Phillies’ Clearwater, Florida, spring training camp.

Thomson remarked, “We have a really talented group, but we also have a fun group that enjoys playing the game and hanging out in the clubhouse.”

Thomson recognizes the value of maintaining a laid-back vibe in the clubhouse. Before being given the opportunity to manage in Philadelphia, he had 38 years of professional baseball experience, including 16 as a major-league instructor with the New York Yankees and Phillies.

Thomson is also aware that when egos get in the way, having elite players may lead to issues. With the Phillies, that isn’t the case, though.

“Everyone cares for one another,” stated Thomson. They all help one another out. They battle for one another. They post every day and compete fiercely, but they also have a great time and we have some hilarious personalities. For me, that’s what makes it so enjoyable. I’m never concerned about our soldiers.
