Ryan Kreidler was in the running to make the Detroit Tigers’ Opening Day roster after a successful Spring Training, but he is now rehabbing from a finger injury.

Ryan Kreidler, a Detroit Tigers infield prospect, had surgery on April 11 to treat a fractured right index finger, the team revealed on Tuesday.

Entering Spring Training, Kreidler, 26, was vying for a spot on Detroit’s Opening Day roster. On March 21, Kreidler was optioned to Triple-A Toledo after hitting.306 with two home runs, six RBI, eight walks, two stolen bases, and a.917 OPS in 20 Grapefruit League games.

In his fourth game of the minor league season, Kreidler got hit in the hand by a pitch. He went to the 7-day injured list on April 7, two days before he was diagnosed with a right finger fracture.
