breaking news ;James Maddison questions Enzo Maresca to join him at Chelsea decision with ironic ‘jumping ship’ call

James Maddison of Tottenham Hotspur celebrates during the exhibition match between Tottenham Hotspur FC and Newcastle United.

The former Leicester City player has spoken his opinion over the boss switching from King Power Stadium to Stamford Bridge in the most recent Chelsea news.

James Maddison has drawn criticism for asking why a manager would like to “jump ship” from freshly promoted Leicester City while Enzo Maresca is still leaving for Chelsea.

A season after their drop from the top tier, the Foxes are set to lose the coach who orchestrated their automatic promotion back to the Premier League. Chelsea, who made a formal contact earlier this week, has chosen Maresca as their top choice to succeed Mauricio Pochettino.

There are many rumours circulating that an agreement between the two clubs is being finalised quickly, which means Leicester will have to find a new coach in time for the 2024–2025 season. Maddison, a former midfielder for Leicester City, has already spoken on the possible transfer for Tottenham.

“What will be will be,” he responded when Sky Sports questioned him about the circumstances at his previous club. “Leicester deserves our respect.

“Leicester’s a big club as well, they’re back in the Premier League now, so I don’t think any manager would want to be jumping straight from that ship.”

There is a hint of irony with this comment because the 27-year-old did precisely that after the 2022–2023 relegation season only last summer. After completing a £40 million transfer to Tottenham Hotspur, the midfield player has made 30 appearances, scoring four goals and dishing out nine assists.
