SHOCK Manuel Neuer OUT Bayern’s Title Hopes HANGING BY A THREAD As Legendary Keeper Ruled Out Of MUST WIN Dortmund Clash

The worst possible news has hit Bayern Munich fans captain and world-class goalkeeper Manuel Neuer will miss the club’s next TWO massive matches, including the make-or-break Revierderby against Borussia Dortmund, with fears he could be sidelined for even longer!

CALF TEAR STRIKES AT WORST POSSIBLE TIME

In a devastating blow revealed by the club’s medical department on February 21, 2026, Neuer sustained a tear to a muscle fiber in his left calf during Bayern’s routine 3-0 victory over Werder Bremen on February 14. What initially looked like minor discomfort after the final whistle has turned into a major crisis, with scans confirming he’ll be out for a minimum of three weeks.

“We’re gutted for Manuel – he’s been in incredible form this season and leads from the back every single game,” said Bayern head coach Vincent Kompany at an emergency press conference. “But injuries are part of football, and now we have to step up without our leader between the posts.”

MISSING THE GAMES THAT COULD DEFINE BAYERN’S SEASON

The timing couldn’t be more brutal for the Bavarian giants, who are locked in a three-way title battle with Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga.

First up  Bayern host Eintracht Frankfurt this Saturday, February 24, in a match they must win to keep pace with their rivals. Then comes the mother of all showdowns: the trip to the Signal Iduna Park to face Borussia Dortmund on February 28 – a game that has decided the title race more times than any other in German football history.

“Losing Neuer for the Dortmund game is like taking the engine out of a Formula 1 car,” former Bayern defender Philipp Lahm told reporters. “He doesn’t just save goals – he organises the entire defence, reads the game better than anyone else, and his presence alone gives the team confidence.”

There are also growing fears Neuer could miss the March 7 clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach and the huge March 14 fixture against league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, should his recovery take longer than expected.

BACKUP KEEPER FACES THE ULTIMATE TEST

Stepping into Neuer’s enormous gloves will be 26-year-old Jonas Urbig, who has made just 12 first-team appearances for Bayern since joining from FC St. Pauli in 2024. While Urbig has impressed in cup games and occasional league starts, he has never faced pressure on the scale of an away trip to Dortmund with the title on the line.

“Jonas is ready for this moment – we’ve seen his quality in training and in the games he’s played,” Kompany insisted. “He has our full trust, and the entire team will rally around him to make sure we don’t let this setback derail our season.”

Urbig himself admitted the challenge is daunting but insists he’s prepared: “Every goalkeeper dreams of playing in games like these. Manuel has been amazing to work with  he’s helped me so much. Now it’s my turn to repay the faith the club has shown in me.”

FANS IN DISARRAY AS TITLE DREAMS TEETER

Social media has erupted with panic from Bayern supporters, with many pointing out that the team has conceded 12 goals in the 15 games Neuer has missed over the past three seasons  compared to just 29 in the 78 matches he’s started.

“How can we win at Dortmund without Neuer? This is a disaster waiting to happen,” one fan posted on X (formerly Twitter), while another added: “We were flying high last week – now everything feels like it’s falling apart!”

WILL NEUER BE BACK IN TIME FOR THE RUN-IN?

The club’s medical team has stressed that Neuer’s recovery will be carefully managed to avoid any long-term damage, with the 38-year-old’s fitness prioritized over rushing him back for key matches.

“Manuel’s health is our number one concern,” said Bayern’s head of medicine Dr. Holger Broich. “We’re taking every precaution to ensure he not only returns but is able to perform at the level we all know he’s capable of. We’re hopeful he’ll be back in action by mid-March, but we won’t take any risks.
