West Ham United still has a chance to survive the 2025-2026 Premier League relegation battle for the following reasons:
Improved Form Under New Management
– Nuno Espírito Santo took charge in September 2025, and the team has since shown a significant upturn. They have picked up three wins and one draw in their last five league games, accumulating 10 points, which has narrowed the gap to safety to just three points (they are 18th with 25 points, while 17th-placed Nottingham Forest has 27).
– Nuno has adjusted tactics to make the team more dynamic, especially transforming the attack into a more threatening unit suitable for his style of play.
Strengthened Attack
– January signings have boosted the front line. Taty Castellanos from Lazio and Pablo from Gil Vicente bring pace and threat on the counter-attack, while Adama Traoré adds speed to the squad, making the attack more dynamic and dangerous.
– Crysencio Summerville has been in excellent form, scoring four goals in his last five league games. His consistency provides a key attacking threat, and keeping him at the club amid transfer interest has been crucial.
Favorable Fixture Run-In
– With 12 games remaining, West Ham will face several teams in and around the relegation zone, such as Wolverhampton Wanderers, Burnley, Leeds United, and Crystal Palace. These matches offer opportunities to gain crucial points against direct rivals.
– They also have games against mid-table teams like Everton, Fulham, and Brentford, where positive results are achievable if they maintain their current form.
Historical Benchmark and Relegation Rivals’ Struggles
– The traditional safety benchmark in the Premier League is around 40 points, and with 12 games left, West Ham needs 15 more points to reach this target. While challenging, it is achievable with consistent performances.
– Teams below them, including Burnley (19 points) and Wolves (10 points), are in worse positions and struggling for form, reducing the risk of being overtaken by lower-placed sides.
