A 1993 lawsuit claims that Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, sexually assaulted a lady in an empty lot.

in a lawsuit filed on Monday, New York City Mayor Eric Adams was charged with sexually abusing a woman in 1993 and obtaining a sexual favor in return for his assistance in helping her advance in the police department.

The Manhattan lawsuit, which was filed on Monday, provided the first information about a November sexual assault allegation against the mayor to the general public.

The Democratic candidate, Adams, has angrily refuted the accusations and claimed he has no memory of ever having met the woman. In autumn of last year, the mayor informed reporters that a sexual assault “absolutely did not happen.”

“Adams preyed on her perceived vulnerability, demanding a quid pro quo sexual favour,” according to the lawsuit, “revealing himself not to be the ‘Guardian’ he purported to be, but a predator.”

Adams’s representative offered a statement that the city’s corporation attorney, Sylvia O. Hinds-Radix, attributed to her, calling the accusations “ludicrous.”

“While we review the complaint, the mayor fully denies these outrageous allegations and the events described here,” said the statement. “We expect full vindication in court.”

The case was filed under the Adult Survivors Act, a New York statute that increased the statute of limitations for filing claims of sexual assault. Just before the law’s expiration this past November, the woman initially filed her claim, but she omitted any information on the alleged

“I don’t recall ever meeting this person and I would never harm anyone in that magnitude,” Adams stated in the fall of 2017. “It did not happen, and that is not who I am and that is not who I’ve ever been in my professional life and, you know, it’s just something that never took place.”

The lawsuit claims that although the woman did not submit a formal report at the time, she notified “numberous people” over the years, including friends, her daughters, and both current and previous NYPD officers.

An email request for comment from the NYPD, which was also named in the complaint, was not answered by a representative.

In reports, the Associated Press usually does not identify people who are accused of sexual assault unless they give permission to be identified.

The case, according to Goddard, is expected to cause her client great personal hardships, but “she believes sexual abusers must be held to account, no matter who they are.”

The case adds to Adams’ mounting legal issues. In November, FBI investigators raided the house of his top fundraiser and confiscated his phones as part of a federal probe into campaign finance.

Agents from the FBI raided two residences earlier this month that belonged to one of Adams’s key aides and another fundraiser.
