Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna has emerged as a leading candidate for the Tottenham Hotspur managerial role, with the Premier League giants reportedly preparing to explore a move for the highly-rated Northern Irishman.
The 38-year-old, who guided Ipswich to back-to-back promotions prior to their relegation from the top flight last season, is under contract at Portman Road until 2029, with a £6 million compensation clause included in his deal. Tottenham are monitoring the situation closely as they assess potential successors to current boss igor Tudor, whose future at the club has been the subject of speculation.
McKenna who previously spent eight years coaching in Manchester United’s academy and first-team setup – has built a strong reputation for developing young talent and implementing an attacking, possession-based style of play that aligns with Tottenham’s stated footballing philosophy. Despite Ipswich currently sitting fourth in the Championship, seven points off automatic promotion, his work at Portman Road has caught the eye of Spurs’ recruitment team.
Ipswich CEO Mark Ashton has moved to emphasize the club’s desire to keep McKenna, stating they are “fully committed to supporting him in our push to return to the Premier League” and are “extremely reluctant” to discuss any approaches for their manager. McKenna himself has maintained his focus remains solely on Ipswich, though he has not ruled out future opportunities at the highest level.
